Conflict-of-Interest Case Analysis
There are a number of ethical challenges faced by Kathy's provider in this case. Issues of disclosure, truth telling, protection of patient rights, preserving the nurse's integrity (by not ordering diagnostic work that is not needed -- both the patient's mother and the hospital are putting pressure on her to order this), transparency, accountability, and conflict-of-interest are just a few of the ethical challenges faced by the provider in this case. Each should be met as it arises and dealt with in the order that it appears over the course of the presentation.
The first challenge appears when the mother requests a chest X-ray, which is unnecessary at this stage (but because she has requested it and the practice manager wants diagnostic test stats up, it could be arranged to please both the mother and the practice manager). However, to protect the integrity of the nurse, it should be refused: if a nurse compromises her own integrity by ordering diagnostic work that is unnecessary it places a strain not only on her own conscience but also on the system as a whole. Unnecessary diagnostic work does nothing but move money from the patient's (or insurer's) pocket to the pockets of the hospital -- without any real or needed service being provided. The nurse who has integrity will be transparent and honest with the mother at this moment and say that such a test can be ordered but that at this moment it is not necessary, as there are a number of alternatives that can...
Nursing Leadership The task that awaits a newly hired nurse unit manager in this particular care facility is going to be challenging. With nurses complaining out loud about assignments, and with nurses calling in sick, being late to work and not being productive, the new unit manager has her hands full. This paper uses scholarly literature to propose steps to be taken to get the care facility back to operating the
Nurse Jackie The Politics of Nurse Jackie Kathleen McHugh's 2012 article entitled "Nurse Jackie and the Politics of Care" offers an analytical discussion on the portrayal of nurses and the nursing profession in popular culture. The discursive assessment of nursing as seen in mass media centers less on the content of the media itself than on the sociological implications of common portrayals in relation to such critical issues as prescribed gender roles
Nursing Concept Theoretical Background One of the complexities of 21st century medicine is the evolution of nursing care theories in combination with a changing need and expectation of the stakeholder population. Nurses must be advocates and communicators, but must balance these along with an overall philosophy of ethics while still remaining mindful of budgets and the need for the medical institution to be profitable. It seems as if these issues comprise a
The questions on legal liability issues were minimal as the field of legal issues is new in nursing. The questions addressed a theoretical part regarding the legal liability issues. They were no need of clarification since the questionnaires were easy and self -- administrative. Although the researcher was there for assistance but telephonically. 1.7. Data analysis In this chapter, the analysis is discussed in detail. Data was collected by means of
Introduction Lateral violence includes all acts of intimidation, humiliation bullying, unwarranted criticism and angry outbursts among other forms from a worker directed to another working (Clarke, 2014). In my current practice, most experienced nurses often feel superior to their inexperienced junior nurses. Therefore, they treat them with contempt as they feel they are more knowledgeable than them. For instance, one nurse may respond with an outburst on anyone enquiring of something
